Light Blocking: Aluminum foil provides complete light blocking, while metallized films such as VMPET also offer good light-blocking performance.
Barrier Performance: Both aluminum foil and metallized films can improve a package’s barrier to moisture and oxygen, with aluminum foil generally providing higher barrier performance.
Therefore, foil stand up pouches can reduce the effects of oxygen, moisture, and light on the contents, helping preserve the product’s original flavor and aroma. At the same time, foil stand up pouches have good stiffness. When the bottom gusset is expanded, the pouch can stand upright and provide good shelf presentation.
Aluminium Foil vs Metallized Stand Up Pouches
Many customers ask directly when requesting a quote: “Is this bag made with real aluminum foil?”
Here, “real aluminum” generally means that the laminated structure uses a real aluminum foil layer (AL), rather than a metallized film such as VMPET or VMOPP. Aluminum foil is a separate aluminum layer, while VMPET and VMOPP are plastic films with a very thin layer of aluminum deposited on the surface.
Although the two have a similar metallic appearance, there are clear differences in barrier performance, flexibility, and cost.
