How Do Barrier Stand Up Pouches Protect Against Oxygen and Moisture?
The oxygen and moisture barrier performance of stand up barrier pouches mainly depends on the multilayer material structure and the properties of its barrier layers. Common barrier materials include VMPET, AL, EVOH, AlOx, and SiOx. Each provides different levels of protection against oxygen, moisture, and light.
VMPET (Metallized PET): A thin aluminum layer deposited onto PET film improves oxygen and moisture barrier properties while reducing light transmission.
AL (Aluminum Foil): The aluminum foil layer provides extremely high barrier protection against oxygen, moisture, and light.
EVOH: Provides excellent oxygen barrier performance but is relatively sensitive to humidity, so other material layers are generally needed to protect it from moisture.
AlOx (Aluminum Oxide Coating): A thin, transparent aluminum oxide layer deposited onto the film surface reduces oxygen and moisture transmission while maintaining transparency.
SiOx (Silicon Oxide Coating): A thin, transparent silicon oxide layer deposited onto the film surface reduces oxygen and moisture transmission without significantly affecting transparency.
